There is nothing to suggest that the knife attack on a train in England was a terrorist act. The statement is from Superintendent John Loveless, of the British policemade this Sunday morning, November 2nd, during a brief press conference.
The police officer added that “at this initial stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate about the cause of this incident”. As he indicated, trains should resume circulation today, under a “strong police presence at stations and on trains throughout the day, across the entire transport network”.
Two people were arrested on Saturday night after the attacks. According to British authorities, both suspects are citizens born in the country. Ten people were stabbed, two of which are in “serious condition”explicou Loveless.
British Defense Secretary John Healey classified the attack as “isolated”, but warned of a “new era of threats”. The Secretary of Transport, Heidi Alexander, highlighted that passengers will notice a “reinforced police presence” in stations and on trains throughout this Sunday, “to reassure the public”.
The crimes took place on a train that ran between Doncaster and King’s Cross station, in London. The attack took place in the early evening, just before 8pm local time, when the British Transport Police were called to reports of a multiple stabbing on board the 6:25pm train.
The train was stopped near Huntingdon station, in Cambridgeshire, in the east of England, after the immediate mobilization of dozens of officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) and emergency teams. The attack took place on an LNER (London North Eastern Railway) train.
